By Car
Key West sits at the very end of the Overseas Highway (US-1), so no matter where you’re coming from on the mainland, the final approach is the same: one road, strung across more than 40 bridges connecting the Florida Keys.
From Miami
~3.5 hrs • ~160 miles
The most common approach. Take US-1 South out of Miami and follow the Overseas Highway the entire way down the Keys. It’s a single, scenic road — no turns to worry about, just budget extra time for two-lane stretches and bridge traffic. Havana Cabana is on N. Roosevelt Blvd. as you enter town.
From Fort Lauderdale
~4 hrs • ~200 miles
Take I-95 or the Turnpike south to Miami, then continue on US-1 South down the Keys the same way.
From Naples / Fort Myers
No direct drive — see By Boat below for a faster, car-free alternative.
From Orlando
~6.5–7 hrs • ~370 miles
Take the Florida Turnpike south to Miami, then US-1 South down the Keys. Given the distance, flying into Key West or Miami is usually the better option (see By Air below).
