Nearly every big city has their own iconic dish. Here in Key West, one of our most iconic dishes is a dessert! That’s right, our famous Key Lime Pie! Although there are several stories floating around of where and who discovered the Key Lime Pie, one thing that we can all agree on is that it’s a delicious and refreshing dessert! Here in Key West you can find Key Lime Pie in nearly every restaurant, but if you’re not ready try them all, I’ve summed up the top 3 spots with the absolute best Key Lime Pies!
Kermit’s Key Lime Shoppe
Located right on the corner of Elizabeth and Greene street, Kermit’s Key Lime Shoppe has pretty much everything imaginable in Key Lime flavor. One of their most fun items is their Key Lime Frozen Chocolate Pie on a Stick! Yes, it’s as delicious as it sounds! The homemade Key Lime Pie gets dipped in a deep dark chocolate, twice, then frozen to perfection. This Chocolate Key Lime Pie on a stick is a refreshing, delicious (and convenient!) dessert on those hot island days. And don’t worry about having a hard time finding the shop, just look for the guy on the sidewalk in the chef’s hat holding the pie!
If you’re looking to have a Key Lime Pie for breakfast (no judgement here!), then make your way down to the corner of Thomas and Patronia Street, to one of the quirkiest restaurants in key West. With a beautiful, colorful and shady outdoor dining area, Blue Heaven is a must stop on your Key Lime Pie Journey. Made in house, Blue Heaven’s Key Lime Pie is made with a buttery graham cracker crust, freshly squeezed lime juice, sweetened condensed milk and lots of meringue. You’ll be able to enjoy your pie outdoors to the sound of live music with the local chickens and resident cats.
Salute! On The Beach
If you’re looking to find a slice of Key Lime Pie away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Key West, Salute! On The Beach is the place to go. Located right in front of Higg’s Beach, Salute is a great spot to enjoy a romantic dinner and dessert. Like Blue Heaven, Salute’s Key Lime Pie comes with a mound of delicious fluffy meringue. Although there are no cats and chickens around this restaurant, you can catch the beautiful Key West sunset from their outdoor dining area while enjoying your Key Lime Pie.
